Coole Quotes: Listen (III)

„The elegy was more than an idiom for children’s literature. The Puritans recognized that writing about childhood is an elegiac practice. […] The list and the elegy lie at the heart of children‘s literature, but they are not just arbitrary categories. List-making always has an elegiac quality to it, as if we reckon up accomplishments or failures for the book of life. But list-making also forstalls the elegy. It becomes a way, in this life, to take up time, to keep us busy and defer that final reckoning.“

Seth Lerer: Children’s Literature. A Reader’s History, from Aesop to Harry Potter. Chicago, London: The University of Chicago Press 2008, 84.

Coole Quotes: Listen (II)

In Terry Pratchetts The Wee Free Men (tolles Buch, von einem Studenten im Phantastik-Seminar empfohlen bekommen) hat die Hexe Miss Tick auch etwas zum Thema Listen zu sagen:

"'I am a teacher as well as a witch,' said Miss Tick, adjusting her hat carefully. 'Therefore I make lists. I make assessments. I write things down in a  neat, firm hand with pens of two colours.'"

Coole Quotes - jetzt neu zum Thema Listen

„Perhaps listing is simply play, mixing and matching for sheer pleasure, like fancy-led children. Maybe the creation of lists echoes some distant poetic impulse, the chanting of the names of objects:
sun moon stars me you.“
